My dear Ines, Petra, Cindy and Tim, My heart is broken for you at the loss of our beloved Friedhelm. Words cannot describe the enormous void and emptiness I feel in this hour of deep sadness. May Almighty God give you strength and fortitude to carry on, for that is what Friedhelm would have wanted. Our memories are a gift from God that death cannot destroy. I'm very sorry I will not be able to join you on Saturday, as you bid Friedhelm farewell; but please know that I will be there in spirit, to wish him well on his final journey that will carry him to the Gates of Heaven, where his soul may rest with those of the righteous. I dream of Werdau, of Zwickau and Freiberg. I long for Dresden, Leipzig and Weimar. Places that will always reside in my heart, as I think of my beloved friend whom I met 42 years ago, when I first came to study in the beautiful land of Germany. May he rest in eternal peace.
